Would you like to learn how to add keywords and meta descriptions to your WordPress website? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Today, I’ll teach you how to accomplish it in 2022.

But, before we begin, let us define keywords and meta descriptions.

What exactly are the keywords?

A keyword is a word that best characterizes your page’s or post’s content. It is the search keyword for which you want a certain page to rank. Therefore, when people search for that keyword, they should discover that page on your site.

What exactly is a “meta description”?

Meta” is simply an HTML tag in your HTML file. The meta element explains your website’s content.

Meta tags and descriptions are typically not visible to visitors to your website or post. Search engines, on the other hand, are aware of it.

What exactly is the meta tag’s purpose?

You might wonder, “Why do we utilize the meta description if the user can’t see it?”

But, do you know the meta tag is frequently used in search engine optimization (SEO)?

To index web pages, search engines such as Google use a robot known as a Web Crawler. Search engines genuinely try to provide the most relevant results for each query.

They use several algorithms to generate high-quality content from vast amounts of data.

According to a 2018 report, a properly sized and appealing Meta Description can result in a 36% click-through rate (CTR) boost. It’s a staggering sum.

The higher your website’s click-through rate, the better your chances of ranking on the first page of Google and any other search engines you use.

Do Keywords and Meta Descriptions improve SEO performance?

As you may be aware, search engines use algorithms to identify high-quality content from massive amounts of data. However, search engines do not reveal the exact value assigned to keywords or meta descriptions.

Industry experts recommend incorporating a well-written meta description with keywords on your website’s pages, including the homepage, category pages, and tag pages.

So, let us continue. Also, look at how to add meta keywords and descriptions properly.

Today, I’ll show you two ways to include meta keywords and meta descriptions in your website.

  1. How to Add Meta Keywords and Description Using Plugin in WordPress

Now add the following code to the functions.php file.

function gretathemes_meta_description() {

    global $post;

    if ( is_singular() ) {

        $des_post = strip_tags( $post->post_content );

        $des_post = strip_shortcodes( $post->post_content );

        $des_post = str_replace( array(“\n”, “\r”, “\t”), ‘ ‘, $des_post );

        $des_post = mb_substr( $des_post, 0, 300, ‘utf8’ );

        echo ‘<meta name=”description” content=”‘ . $des_post . ‘” />’ . “\n”;

    if ( is_home() ) {

        echo ‘<meta name=”description” content=”‘ . get_bloginfo( “description” ) . ‘” />’ . “\n”;

    if ( is_category() ) {

        $des_cat = strip_tags(category_description());

        echo ‘<meta name=”description” content=”‘ . $des_cat . ‘” />’ . “\n”;

add_action( ‘wp_head’, ‘gretathemes_meta_description’);

Now update your meta informations inside of gretathemes_meta_tags() function.

for example:

function gretathemes_meta_tags() {
